I work to discover the earth surface processes and geological phenomena for sediment-related hazard reduction and environment conservation. I collect detailed data of topographic features and geological structure by field surveys and remote sensing observations from airborne or satellite platforms. I have been studying about predicting of potential sites of catastrophic landslides by coupling the linkage between hillslope and channel processes. I have found that long-term landscape evolution and characteristic mircrotopography are significant keys to locate potential sites of catastrophic landslides. Besides, I also examined landslide-derived sediment to steep mountain channel by flume experiment.
My research activity have not been only for academic research but also for the application of the research results. I have been involved in the national research projects for the implementation of disaster mitigation in Taiwan and Japan and I have been doing my research with the cooperation with private sectors. I believe these activities are essentially important for communication about reduction of landslide risk to practical applications. This also helps to understand the gap between knowledge and practice such as policy integration and theory and application.
